Jamaican Irish Moss Recipe
In order to make Jamaican Irish Moss Recipe, you will need several ingredients beside ¾ lb Irish moss including:
3 oz of gum acacia or also known as gum Arabic
¾ pound sugar, 5 oz. linseed
5 oz. isinglass
3 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 can of sweetened condensed milk, or you can use a healthier version which is ¾ cup natural honey
2 tablespoons of nutmeg in powder
The steps will be:
- Before you use the Irish moss, you will need to wash it thoroughly to remove any sands, then keep it overnight soaked in water.
- On the next day, you can boil 5qt. water and add Irish moss, isinglass, gum acacia or gum Arabic, and linseed.
- Cook all ingredients for about 45 minutes until other ingredients except the Irish moss are dissolved. Strain the liquid to another container, you don’t need to keep the boiled Irish moss since you have already got the extract from the boiling process.
- Boil again the liquid with other ingredients: vanilla extract, natural honey or condensed milk and powdered nutmeg for about 10 minutes. Before serving, you will need to cool this drink and put it in a fridge for five hours.
